Family Day

Fun for the family day is Saturday, January 18, 2020

No pre-registration: first come, first served.

All events take place at Museum of Natural History unless otherwise noted*
O: Outside the museum (near the gift shop entrance)
LC: Museum Learning Center (enter through the gift shop)
A: Museum Auditorium (enter through the gift shop)

9:30-10:15 (O) Introduction to Birding and Habitat Hike (Audrey and Kyle Weichert) Learn to use binoculars, field guides, and discuss habitat needs during this short walk. Binoculars and field guides provided.
9:45-11:00 (O) Intermediate / Teen Birding (Max Taylor) Led by TEEN Max Taylor and designed for kids ages 9 and older already familiar with binoculars and having some birding experience. Participants should bring their own binoculars, if possible.
10:00-1:00 (A) Bird, Learn, Make and Take (K. Beckman, B. Beckman, Shields, O’Brien, Howell, Barton, Millward) Arts and crafts activities with bird related themes.
10:15-noon * Kayaking and Canoeing in the Bay (Sub Sea Tours) (Kimi and Matt Paradis) Those under 10 must be accompanied by an adult, $10 per person boat rental fee paid directly to Sub Sea Tours. 10:15-11:00 (LC) Birds in Your Neighborhood (Neuhauser) Presentation about birds likely to be found nearby your home: feathers, food, how to find them and more.
10:30-11:15 (O) Introduction to Birding and Habitat Hike (Audrey and Kyle Weichert) Repeat of 9:30-10:15 trip for those preferring later start time.
11:30-12:15 (LC) Rubbing Noses with Reptiles (Sheridan) Up close, hands on experience with reptiles. Free admission tickets available beginning 15 minutes prior to show at registration / information table near gift shop entrance. Limited to 25 participants, one ticket given per person prior to show.
11:30-12:15 (O) ) Critter Crawl (SLO County Park Rangers) Join SLO County Park Rangers as they crawl, creep or slither along searching for bugs, insects, spiders, reptiles and birds around the State Park grounds.
12:30-1:15 (LC) Rubbing Noses with Reptiles (Sheridan) Repeat of 11:45-12:30 event. Free admission tickets available beginning 15 minutes prior to show at registration / information table near gift shop entrance. Limited to 25 participants, one ticket given per person prior to show.
1:30-2:00 (A) Puppet show starring the Great Blue Heron (Howell, Strohman) A fun learning experience for the entire family.
2:00-2:45 (LC) Gift Giveaway (Surbey) Family Day participants can receive a “thank you” gift from Morro Coast Audubon to take home. One gift per child.
