Volunteering for the Morro Bay Bird Festival

Please review the Volunteer Job Description before committing to a shift.  Training will be available (times and place to be announced).

Festival registration fees are offered at a discount with a minimum of 6 volunteer hours. Volunteers that meet the 6 hour minimum may register:

  • on opening day, November 4, 2023 at a 50% discount or
  • register for free on November 18, 2023

Please note that volunteers will still pay any van or boat fees.

All volunteers will receive a T-shirt regardless of the number of hours they volunteer.

Please note that you will receive a reminder notice 3 days before your assigned shift.

Trip Starter: South Bay Community Center (Los Osos)

DETAILS:

Trip Starters will either use  our "Bobolink" app.  on their smartphone, or use the paper list in the binder provided to check-in participants for each trip. Please check each participant for a badge/lanyard, and stay at least 15 minutes after the start time of each trip to check- in any stragglers. (Training for "Bobolink" will be required.) If you checked in on "Bobolink," you are finished. If you used a paper copy, please return the participant list to the box provided or the MB Community Center by the end of the festival.  Directions to this meeting place is on our website, on the Bobolink app., and there are copies of maps in the binder as well, if anyone requests one.

Note: Please plan to arrive at the meeting place at least 15 minutes before the trip begins.

Volunteer activities that take place at the Morro Bay Community Center.

Morro Bay Bird Festival volunteers are vitally important to the overall success of this very popular 5 day event. Examples of duties may include; registration, attendee check-in, sales, hospitality, speaker introduction, trip-starters, set up/take down, signage placement and much more. There may be opportunities to volunteer before the festival as well. The choice(s) will be yours.

In exchange, we offer you a unique opportunity to be part of the bird festival. As an incentive, 6+ hour volunteers will be offered

  • registration discounts * (half off for full pass on opening registration day) or
  • free registration * (two weeks following opening registration day)
  • post-festival "volunteers only" birding adventures

*Discounts refer to registration only.
